A family of coral and club fungi ranging from simple, club‑shaped fruitbodies to highly branched, antler- or coral-like forms. Colours vary widely - yellow, orange, brown, purple, or pale - and textures range from brittle to fleshy. Many species have wrinkled, folded, or bluntly ridged fertile surfaces, rather than true gills or pores. Members include the clubs and corals traditionally placed in Clavariadelphus, Gomphus, Ramaria, and related genera. Most are ectomycorrhizal, occurring on soil in native forest, often near beech or conifers. New Zealand hosts a scattered mix of species, many poorly known and some likely undescribed, making the family appear more chaotic than it truly is.

This genus is separated from other coral fungi by having tan-coloured spores. You will need to make a spore print to see this. These are soft-fleshy fungi that are often brightly coloured, with many branches and coral-like. Correct identification is difficult without the aid of a microscope as many species look very similar to each other. Highly branched coral fungi, forming dense clusters of antler‑like branches in yellow, orange, brown, or purple tones. Many NZ species remain undescribed.

Genus: Phaeoclavulina
Phaeoclavulina is a genus of coral fungi in the family Gomphaceae, characterised by branched or club-shaped basidiomata, ochraceous to brownish colours, and distinctly ornamented spores. The genus corresponds largely to the former Ramaria subgenus Echinoramaria, now recognised as a separate lineage based on morphology and molecular data.

Genus: Ramariopsis
Ramariopsis includes small, delicate coral fungi that may be simple clubs or finely branched forms. Fruit bodies are usually upright, with a short stalk and cylindrical or slightly flattened branches, often dividing dichotomously or forming antler-like tips. Colours range from white and cream to pale yellows, pinks, or pastels, and the texture may be brittle or fairly firm depending on the species. A useful feature for separating Ramariopsis from similar genera is that many species turn green when touched with ferric salts.
